Drone technology is becoming an important tool for first responders and public safety teams during emergencies and large events. Kansas State University Salina, which specializes in uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), announced it is offering training for public safety agencies.
The Public Safety UAS Summit on April 22 will connect law enforcement, fire, and emergency management teams with drone experts for a day of learning, networking, and hands-on drone demonstrations. Registration is open until April 8.
Topics include using drones for first responders, large-event management, and active shooter response. Presenters include FAA aviation safety experts Karen Miller and Rick Stevens, deputies Adam Luke and Mike Wittrock of the Story County (Iowa) Sheriff’s Office, Captain Curtis Weber of the Lenexa Police Department, and Deputy Jason Grubbs.
Participants can also attend vendor demonstrations from companies such as UVT, Motorola Solutions, BRINC, and SkySafe.
The summit runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Crisis City Regional Training Center in Salina. Questions can be sent to profed@k-state.edu.
