K-State volleyball opened the 2025 season with a straight-set win over UMBC, 25-20, 25-16, 25-15, Friday night at Morgan Family Arena.
Senior Shaylee Myers led the Wildcats with 20 kills, hitting .462, while setter Ava LeGrand recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs. K-State hit .310 as a team and held UMBC to a .076 percentage, adding eight total blocks.
The Wildcats closed the first set with a 5-0 run, then controlled the match with strong hitting and defense. Myers had seven kills in the final set alone, while freshman Caleigh Ponn reached 10 digs in her collegiate debut.
Head coach Jason Mansfield praised the team’s start and the energy from the home crowd. The Wildcats face Delaware next on Sunday at Morgan Family Arena.
