Kansas drivers are benefiting from some of the nation’s more affordable gas prices, according to the Zutobi Global Gas Index, a 2026 report that compares fuel costs across the United States. The index used data from AAA and other sources to rank states by average price per gallon.

In the latest report, Kansas is tied with other states like Arkansas and Mississippi with an average price around $2.43 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel. That places Kansas among the states with lower-than-average gas prices nationwide, well below the national average of about $2.81 per gallon.

The report shows that states in the South and Midwest generally offer more affordable fuel than many coastal regions. Oklahoma leads the nation with the lowest average price at about $2.31 per gallon, while states such as Hawaii and California remain the most expensive, often exceeding $4 per gallon.

Experts say the drop in U.S. gas prices is due to lower travel demand and wider shifts in energy markets, providing some financial relief for drivers nationwide.

As prices vary based on local taxes, proximity to refineries, and fuel blends, Kansas drivers may continue to see competitive fuel costs compared with other parts of the country.
