Kansas Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland announced $550,000 in grant funding to support the expansion of registered apprenticeship programs statewide.

The Kansas Office of Registered Apprenticeship grant includes two opportunities. The first continues funding for established apprenticeship sponsors, including state educational institutions, joint-labor organizations, businesses, nonprofits, and workforce boards, helping them expand programs and reach. The second offers a new option for small businesses to adopt registered apprenticeship programs.

Existing grants provide up to $150,000 to cover technical instruction, outreach, staffing, partnerships, and administrative costs. Small businesses with fewer than 10 employees can access $7,000 grants if they register at least one apprentice by the end of the grant period. Applications for both opportunities are due by September 20, 2026.

The program is part of the Kansas Department of Commerce’s broader workforce development efforts, aimed at supporting high-wage, high-demand jobs across the state.
