Kansas is a top state in the beef cattle industry, not only for its cattle inventory but also for its national influence. Many beef producers on the Kansas Beef Council (KBC) executive committee volunteer in various national leadership roles. They serve on Cattlemen’s Beef Board committees, representing either the Federation of State Beef Councils or the Beef Board, based on strategies outlined in the Beef Industry Long Range Plan.
The committees’ responsibilities include interviewing candidates for the Beef Promotion Operating Committee (BPOC), evaluating the effectiveness of checkoff-funded projects, and providing oversight. Their primary goal is to invest in opportunities that boost beef demand, ensuring Kansas beef producers are well-represented in checkoff programming decisions.
Scott Stebner, KBC Executive Director, is also a member of the Federation Advisory Council, which comprises state beef council executive directors who offer insights on state issues to Federation leadership.
In addition, many KBC volunteers serve on checkoff programming committees, where they review contractors’ results and proposals and make funding recommendations to BPOC for specific program areas.
Kansas is represented in national leadership roles by the following producers:
- Stacy McClintock was recently appointed to serve on the Evaluation Committee for the Federation of State Beef Councils
- Jaret Moyer was reappointed to serve on the Finance and Audit Committee for the Federation of State Beef Councils
- Philip Weltmer serves as the co-chair of the Checkoff Nutrition and Health Committee in addition to serving on the Nominating Committee at the 2025 annual convention
- Amy Langvardt was appointed to serve on the 2025 Cattlemen’s Beef Board Nominating Committee
- Randall Debler is the Kansas revenue seat for the Federation of State Beef Councils
