Kansas Communities Secure Over $1.4 Million in Federal Funding for Road Safety Projects through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Governor Laura Kelly announced on Monday, November 25, that four Kansas communities have received more than $1.1 million in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). With an additional $265,000 in matching funds from the Kansas Infrastructure Hub and Build Kansas Fund, along with over $22,000 in local contributions, the total investment for this round of SS4A grants in Kansas exceeds $1.4 million.

The Build Kansas Fund has provided matching dollars for 31 federal grant awards across Kansas, including these four recent grants. The total investment from the Build Kansas Fund in all projects amounts to $29.04 million, which has secured $45.99 million in federal grant funding.

The four Kansas projects receiving SS4A funding in the third round are:

  • Dickinson County –Road Safety Action Plan
    • Build Kansas Funding – $36,000
    • Local Funding – $12,000
    • Federal Funding Awarded – $192,000
    • Total Project – $240,000
  • Osage County – Comprehensive Safety Action Plan
    • Build Kansas Funding – $149,000
    • Federal Funding Awarded – $596,000
    • Total Project – $745,000

With these four awards, the Build Kansas Fund has supplied matching funds for 31 federal grants across Kansas, contributing $29.04 million and leveraging $45.99 million in federal funding.
