Kansas Delegation Urges Trump to Approve Disaster Declaration After March Storms Devastate Infrastructure

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall led Republican members of Kansas’ federal delegation in urging President Donald Trump to approve a federal disaster declaration and public assistance funding for the state. The request follows two major storm systems that hit Kansas between March 14 and 19, 2025, bringing damaging winds, blizzard conditions, low humidity, and blowing dust. One of the storms had near-record low pressure, comparable to a Category 1 hurricane, according to the National Weather Service.

The letter, also signed by U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and Representatives Tracey Mann, Ron Estes, and Derek Schmidt, emphasizes the need for federal support to help repair and rebuild damaged public infrastructure. If approved, the declaration would allow local governments and public utility providers to apply for FEMA reimbursement for storm-related expenses.
