In recognition of National Safety Month, the Kansas Department of Labor’s (KDOL) Industrial Safety and Health (ISH) Division is encouraging the development and enforcement of strong safety plans in both public and private workplaces, including amusement rides.
Private sector employers may qualify for free, confidential safety and health consultations, as well as the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). For example, Cross Manufacturing works with an ISH consultant each year to support its annual safety training, which this year includes sessions on Personal Protective Equipment and Noise Exposure.
KDOL also recommends that public sector employers review their workplace safety and health practices every three to five years to maintain a safe working environment.
Amusement ride safety is a shared responsibility among ride operators, the public, and KDOL. Kansans are encouraged to stay alert and report any rides that appear unsafe.
