The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) has received the 2025 Amazon Web Services (AWS) Champions Award for its successful overhaul of the state’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) system. The agency replaced its outdated 1970s-era platform with a modern, cloud-based system that offers faster, more secure, and user-friendly service for both claimants and employers.

Accessible through KansasUI.gov, the new system improves usability, enhances security, and streamlines processing. This modernization effort positions Kansas as a national leader in UI system innovation. The previous system was burdened by slow processing times, limited self-service features, and increasing security challenges.

KDOL’s new platform features a responsive web portal, upgraded backend infrastructure, and a range of tools that simplify UI management. The AWS award highlights the department’s dedication to building reliable, scalable, and accessible digital public services that meet the evolving needs of Kansans.
