Kansas Gas Service Urges Residents to Call 811 Before Digging During National Safe Digging Month

April is National Safe Digging Month, and Kansas Gas Service is reminding everyone to call 811 before starting any digging project—no matter the size.

Spring often brings planting, home upgrades, and outdoor projects, making it a key time to promote safety. Kansas residents are encouraged to take the 2025 Safe Digging Pledge at BeADigHeroKansas.com. Those who sign up will be entered into a drawing to win a free tree, thanks to a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Winners can pick their tree and get tips on how it can help reduce energy use.

Digging without knowing what’s below can be dangerous. Even simple tasks like planting a tree or repairing a sprinkler system can damage gas, electric, or water lines. Calling 811 at least two business days before you dig ensures a crew can come mark underground utilities for free.

Take the pledge and learn more at BeADigHeroKansas.com—and help keep your community safe.
