The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is raising concerns over the U.S. Department of Labor’s recent decision to end the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Integrity and Fraud Prevention program, according to a news release. This program has been a key tool in helping states improve the security and efficiency of their UI systems.

In Kansas, it supported the implementation of identity verification, fraud detection analytics, and system safeguards—measures aimed at stopping criminal activity and preventing disruptions that diverted payments from eligible residents.

A 2023 report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office found that many states failed to conduct recommended fraud checks and recovery efforts, underscoring the continued need for strong federal support. KDOL officials warn that discontinuing the program may leave state systems more vulnerable to fraud and operational issues, putting taxpayer dollars at greater risk.
