U.S. Senator Jerry Moran led the Kansas congressional delegation in calling on President Trump to issue a federal disaster declaration for Kansas after severe weather struck the state earlier this summer. Joining Moran in the request were Sen. Roger Marshall, M.D., and U.S. Representatives Tracey Mann, Derek Schmidt, Sharice Davids, and Ron Estes.

The delegation’s letter to the president stressed the widespread damage caused by powerful windstorms, flooding, and tornadoes that swept across Kansas between June 3 and June 7, 2025. Communities across the state are facing costly recovery efforts as they work to repair homes, businesses, farms, and public infrastructure.

Governor Laura Kelly formally requested the disaster declaration on August 6, 2025, following assessments of the damage. If approved, the declaration would unlock federal resources and funding to help Kansans recover and rebuild.

Sen. Moran and his colleagues stressed the urgent need for federal assistance, noting that many Kansas families, farmers, and communities cannot fully recover without additional support.
