The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has announced that federal funding has been approved for the 2026 Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP).

The program provides eligible households with a one-time annual benefit to help cover a portion of their primary home heating costs during the winter. To be eligible for LIEAP, an adult at the residence must be responsible for paying the heating costs for the current home, either directly to the landlord, utility company, or fuel supplier, as well as meet income guidelines.

Benefit amounts depend on several factors, including the federal funding available and expected number of applicants, household income, the number of people living in the home, the type of dwelling, and the primary heating fuel used.

Applications will open at 8 a.m. on January 20, 2026, and must be submitted to DCF by 5 p.m. on March 31, 2026.

Those needing additional support with their utilities can contact the United Way’s 211 hotline or website, 211.org, or call1-800-CHILDREN (1-800-332-6378) or visit their website at 1800childrenks.org.
