Kansas closed September 2025 with total tax collections of $1.00 billion, falling $3.4 million, or 0.3%, short of estimates. Compared to September 2024, collections were down 1.9%.

Individual income tax revenue helped soften the decline. Collections reached $481.4 million, which was $26.4 million, or 5.8%, above expectations and 2.8% higher than last year. However, those gains were outweighed by weaker corporate income tax receipts. Corporate collections came in at $199.6 million, falling $35.4 million, or 15%, below the estimate and down 12.5% from a year ago.

Sales tax receipts also showed mixed results. Combined retail sales and compensating use taxes totaled $293.3 million. That was $5.3 million, or 1.8%, above estimates but 1.1% lower than September 2024.

While personal income taxes provided a boost, sharp declines in corporate tax revenue ultimately pulled September’s overall collections below target.
