Kansas sportsbooks reported $189.8 million in wagers for August 2025, marking a 9.2% increase from July’s $173.9 million. This uptick reflects a growing interest in sports betting as the state enters the new football season.

Gross gaming revenue (GGR) also saw a significant rise, reaching $12.5 million, up from $10.5 million in July. This 18.8% increase indicates a higher win rate for sportsbooks, with a 6.57% hold rate.

Mobile betting continues to dominate the market, accounting for nearly 99% of the total handle. Casino.org reported the state’s 10% tax on sports betting revenue generated approximately $1.25 million in August, contributing to the general fund and initiatives aimed at attracting professional sports teams to Kansas.

Despite the growth in revenue, Kansas lawmakers are considering adjustments to the sports betting tax structure. In fiscal year 2025, the state retained about $17 million from $2.7 billion in wagers, prompting discussions on how to increase the state’s share of betting revenue.

As the sports betting landscape evolves, Kansas continues to explore ways to balance industry growth with maximizing state revenue.
