Kansas State University is launching a program to improve broadband access for many Kansans, helping them better navigate the digital economy. The Digital Ambassador program is currently being tested in several counties, focusing on assisting rural and underserved residents in using online tools like telehealth and online banking.
A recent report highlighted that 92% of jobs now require digital skills, making this initiative important for economic growth. K-State 105 is supporting the program and has secured funding to expand it through a $526,998 grant from the Kansas Office of Broadband Development.
The program aims to boost digital literacy among residents, especially youth and older adults. K-State Extension agents have been trained to implement the program, collaborating with various partners, including local universities, health organizations, and telecommunications companies. The goal is to help underserved communities effectively use technology and access essential services.
