Kansas Summer Food Program Seeks Sponsors to Provide Free Meals for Children

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is seeking sponsors to help provide free, nutritious meals to Kansas children during the summer. Administered by the USDA, SFSP reimburses schools, public agencies, and nonprofit organizations for serving meals in eligible areas where children qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.

The program aims to ensure children in high-poverty areas continue receiving balanced meals when school is out. Sponsors receive reimbursements for serving healthy meals at approved sites, supporting the Kansas State Board of Education’s vision for student success.

Communities can get involved by sponsoring meal sites, volunteering, or offering activities to enhance summer programs. Proper nutrition helps children stay healthy, behave better, and return to school ready to learn. Families also benefit by easing financial strain during the summer months. Organizations interested in participating should explore sponsorship or support opportunities to expand meal access across Kansas.

Program information may be made available in languages other than English. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication to obtain program information (e.g., Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language), should contact the responsible state or local agency that administers the program or USDA’s TARGET Center at (202) 720-2600 (voice and TTY) or contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339.
