The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is seeking sponsors to provide free, healthy meals to children in Kansas during the summer. Run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the program reimburses schools, public agencies, and nonprofit groups for serving meals.
Meals are offered at no cost to children in areas where families qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. These meals support summer learning and recreational programs. Communities that already have a sponsor can still help by providing extra sites, volunteers, or activities.
The program’s goal is to make sure children in high-poverty areas continue to get nutritious meals when school is out and USDA school meals are not available. Sponsors are reimbursed for serving and documenting healthy meals to kids ages 1 to 18 at approved sites.
Access to summer meals helps children stay healthy, behave better, and return to school ready to learn. It also helps parents stretch their food budgets, supporting families while promoting student success.
