The State of Kansas ended August 2025 with $692.3 million in total tax collections, $26.2 million—or 3.9%—above the estimate and 4% higher than August 2024.

Individual income tax collections reached $361.2 million, up $16.2 million (4.7%) from the estimate and 9.7% higher than last year. Corporate income tax collections totaled $18.2 million, falling $1.8 million (9%) below the estimate and down 9.7% from August 2024.

Retail sales and compensating use tax receipts combined for $294.2 million, exceeding the estimate by $11.2 million (4%) but nearly unchanged from a year ago.

Governor Laura Kelly credited workforce growth and business investment for stronger-than-expected revenues, noting withholdings rose 13.7% over last August. She cautioned, however, that despite steady revenues, the state’s budget poses long-term risks if fiscal responsibility is not maintained.
