Kansas ended June 2025 with $1.06 billion in total tax collections—$72.6 million, or 7.4%, above projections and 3.2% higher than June 2024.

Governor Laura Kelly welcomed the stronger-than-expected revenue but warned it doesn’t resolve concerns about long-term fiscal stability. “Even with revenues exceeding forecasts, the Legislature’s budget puts Kansas on track to run a deficit of more than $375 million by 2029,” Kelly said. “Spending is projected to outpace revenues by $300 to $700 million each year, threatening the financial health of our state.”

Kelly emphasized that maintaining fiscal discipline is essential to avoid repeating past challenges, including four-day school weeks, deteriorating infrastructure, and a drained rainy-day fund.
