Preliminary data released from the Kansas Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information division and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 3.8% in June. This matches the rate from May but is slightly higher than the 3.6% recorded in June 2024. Kansas’ labor force participation rate also remained unchanged at 67.0%.
Seasonally adjusted estimates show total nonfarm employment in Kansas rose by 3,800 jobs from May to June. This includes an increase of 3,200 private sector jobs and 600 government jobs. The largest private sector gains were in private education and health services, which added 1,900 jobs. The construction sector saw the biggest decline, losing 800 jobs.
Compared to June 2024, Kansas has added 10,300 nonfarm jobs. This includes 6,700 new jobs in the private sector and 3,600 in government.
