In observance of National Consumer Protection Week, March 1–7, 2026, Kansas Attorney General Kobach is joining nationwide efforts to help people recognize and avoid scams. Scammers are using advanced tools like AI, deep fakes, and phishing, and U.S. consumers lost billions to fraud last year.
In 2025, the Attorney General’s office handled thousands of consumer complaints and secured over $3.2 million in settlements for Kansans. Common scams include imposter calls, fake jobs, online romance or investment scams, and subscription traps.
“Scammers are getting more sophisticated every day, but there are basic steps we can all take to spot fraud and protect ourselves,” Kobach said.
To protect yourself: stop and think before acting, verify the source directly, use secure payment methods, and keep personal information private.
Anyone who suspects a scam can contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Office at cprotect@ag.ks.gov or file a complaint online at www.ag.ks.gov.
