Kansas Youth Business Challenge Empowers Student Entrepreneurs, Boosts Rural Development

The Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge competition encourages middle and high school students to launch their own businesses while supporting rural economic development.

Launched in 2013 with just 48 participants, the program has grown significantly, drawing more than 1,100 students in the 2023-2024 school year. Organized by Network Kansas in partnership with K-State Research and Extension and Kansas 4-H, the challenge begins with local Youth Entrepreneurship Challenges held in 64 counties.

Winners from these events qualify for the state competition, set for April 17 at Kansas State University’s Student Union. Competitors will present business pitches, submit executive summaries, and participate in a trade show. The event allows students to showcase their ideas and gain experience in business planning, communication, and entrepreneurship.

Judges include entrepreneurs, extension agents, and business professionals. Winners receive cash prizes and a people’s choice award. Results will be posted on Network Kansas and the Kansas 4-H Facebook page.
