KBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Shawnee County Following Traffic Stop

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is examining an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Shawnee County on Friday night, November 29.

Around 10:30 p.m., the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) stopped a suspected impaired driver. During field sobriety tests, the driver fled, prompting a foot chase. A physical struggle followed, during which the trooper used a Taser, pepper spray, and eventually fired his weapon, striking the man.

The individual was taken to a Topeka hospital and is in stable condition.

The KBI was notified at approximately 11 p.m. and has launched an independent investigation. The findings will be submitted to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review.
