The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is reviewing a fatal officer-involved shooting in Osage County that left one suspect dead and four law enforcement officers injured.

According to the KBI, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 10:49 a.m. Investigators say the incident began about 25 minutes earlier, when deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a home in the county.

When officers arrived, they encountered a 22-year-old man outside. Gunfire was exchanged, and three deputies and two troopers returned fire. During the shooting, three deputies, one trooper, the suspect, and a 77-year-old man — identified as the suspect’s grandfather — were struck.

Multiple agencies secured the home and provided medical aid. All injured officers were taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, and the trooper was later transferred to KU Medical Center. Two deputies underwent surgery and are reported to be in good condition; another has been released. The trooper and the injured grandfather are expected to recover. The suspect died at the scene.

The KBI says its independent investigation is ongoing, and findings will be forwarded to prosecutors once completed.
