The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) has scheduled two public hearings on Evergy’s request to build a 133-mile, 345-kilovolt electric transmission line across western Sedgwick, Sumner, Cowley and Chautauqua counties.
The proposed line would run from the Buffalo Flats Substation near Garden Plains, Kansas, to the Delaware Substation near Delaware, Oklahoma. The hearings will allow residents to learn about the proposed route, ask questions and provide public comments before the Commission makes a decision. Before each hearing, an open house will be held with KCC staff and Evergy representatives available to answer questions and review route maps.
The first hearing is Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Sedan High School, with an open house from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and the hearing at 6 p.m. The second hearing is Thursday, Jan. 8, at Southwestern College in Winfield, with an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. and the hearing at 6 p.m.
Residents may also participate by Zoom with advance registration or submit written comments through Jan. 23, 2026.
