The Kansas Department of Transportation has continued upgrading its KanDrive road and weather website and mobile app, offering travelers a single, 24/7 source for current highway and weather conditions. KanDrive’s expanded features, first introduced in 2024 and refined since, were developed through the U.S. 83 Advanced Technology Project, which covers the corridor from southern Finney County to northern Thomas County. While some tools apply specifically to U.S. 83, most enhancements are available statewide.

New features include the ability to report incidents through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, hands-free voice reporting via CarPlay, high wind and slow-moving vehicle alerts, expanded work zone updates, improved detour details, Alexa device integration, and oversized truck location mapping along the U.S. 83 corridor.

Since its launch in 2009, KanDrive has provided real-time travel updates on road conditions, closures, construction, camera feeds, and detours. Following the December 2024 upgrade, the platform has logged 3.7 million sessions and nearly 75,000 app downloads.

More details on KanDrive improvements and the U.S. 83 project are available at KSDOT’s website. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting KanDrive.gov or downloading the app.
