The Kansas Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to stay sober as April 20 — commonly known as 420 Day — approaches. The unofficial holiday is often associated with increased marijuana use, which can lead to more impaired drivers on the road.
Through the national campaign “If You Feel Different, You Drive Different,” officials are highlighting the risks of driving under the influence of drugs. Early 2024 data shows 62 people were killed and over 200 injured in Kansas crashes involving drug-impaired drivers.
To stay safe, plan ahead:
- If you choose to use marijuana or other impairing substances, arrange a ride, use a cab, or call a rideshare service.
- Stop friends from driving impaired—take their keys if necessary.
- If you spot an impaired driver, report it to law enforcement.
