The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is alerting the public about a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from KDOT. The texts demand payment for fake traffic tickets and are not legitimate.
KDOT emphasized it does not collect traffic ticket payments and will never request money through text messages. Officials urge recipients not to click on any links, as doing so could compromise personal or financial information.
Anyone who receives such a message should delete it, report it as junk, and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov. Those who may have provided payment details are advised to contact their bank or credit card company immediately.
