The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) is inviting public input on a revised draft of the Kansas State Wildlife Action Plan, which outlines strategies to conserve the state’s most at-risk wildlife and habitats.

The 2025 draft updates the previous plan from 2015, a requirement by Congress to remain eligible for state wildlife grants. These grants help support early conservation efforts before species become more endangered and costly to protect.

The plan highlights priority species and habitats in need of conservation and outlines possible actions to address threats. While KDWP leads the effort, the plan is intended to guide agencies, organizations, experts, and individuals working to preserve Kansas’ natural resources.

Federal rules require each state to revise its plan at least once every 10 years. The updated draft includes new information on conservation issues and actions, outdoor recreation and education, and expanded collaboration with law enforcement on protecting sensitive species.

The public can review and comment on the draft through July 18, 2025, at ksoutdoors.com/Services/Kansas-SWAP. Comments can be submitted via the email link on the webpage. Public input is essential to developing a strong, effective conservation plan.
