Governor Laura Kelly announced that more than $10.4 million in federal grant funding will go to 64 community organizations and local and state agencies across Kansas.

The funding comes from the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and will help groups that support crime victims and survivors. These organizations provide services such as mental health counseling, legal help, victim advocacy, crisis response, and other forms of assistance.

The money comes from the Federal Crime Victims Fund, which is paid for by fines and penalties collected in federal criminal cases. No tax dollars are used for this funding.

The grants are distributed through the Office for Victims of Crime, which is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs.

In total, $10,484,525 was awarded to support victim services statewide.
