KSDE Assures U.S. Department of Education of Full Compliance with Title VI and DEI Regulations

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) responded to a request from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) on April 3 regarding compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) regulations. The letter assures the ED that both KSDE and all Kansas Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are in full compliance with federal antidiscrimination laws and regulations.

“As public stewards of education in Kansas, we take seriously our responsibility to follow the law and maintain the trust of our communities,” said Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas Education Commissioner. “Our agency remains committed to ensuring that federal laws are respected and that all Kansas schools operate within the legal framework.”

As the State Education Agency (SEA), KSDE provided documentation affirming its commitment to adhering to all federal nondiscrimination statutes, including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In addition, KSDE requires LEAs to submit annual assurances confirming their compliance with federal and state nondiscrimination regulations, including Title VI.
