KTWU, in partnership with PBS® and GBH, is launching America’s Awesome Kids, a nationwide project highlighting children ages 8–10 and their unique geographies, customs, skills, and experiences. Funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the series will feature 25 kids—one from each state—in three-to-five-minute live-action shorts available on PBS KIDS® platforms, including KTWU.
KTWU is seeking one outstanding Kansas kid to represent the state. Applicants should submit a two-to-three-minute video showcasing what makes them “awesome,” whether it’s their hobbies, talents, culture, traditions, family, community, local landmarks, or natural environment. Submission guidelines are available on the America’s Awesome Kids website. Applications are due by 10:59 p.m. on August 15.
Selected applicants will be filmed in their hometown and featured alongside other children nationwide as part of PBS KIDS’ celebration of America’s 250th birthday in summer 2026. The project aims to strengthen civics education by encouraging appreciation of diverse perspectives, highlighting geographic variety, modeling community involvement, and fostering curiosity, national awareness, and pride.
KTWU, Kansas’s first public television station, has been broadcasting since 1965 and reaches about 1.6 million viewers across Kansas and neighboring states.
