Late Free Throws Lift Kansas Past K-State

Kansas State Wildcats women’s basketball rallied to tie the game at halftime, but Kansas Jayhawks women’s basketball used late free throws to secure a 75-68 win Saturday in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown at Bramlage Coliseum.

K-State (15-14, 8-8 Big 12) erased a 14-point second-quarter deficit with a 14-0 run to close the half. Senior guard Tess Heal scored nine points during the stretch and finished with 19 points and seven assists. Nastja Claessens added 13 points, and freshman Brandie Harrod scored a career-high 13.

Kansas (17-11, 7-9) was led by S’Mya Nichols with 17 points and Jaliya Davis with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The teams traded leads in the second half before Kansas pulled away at the line. The Jayhawks shot 18 of 21 on free throws, including 9 of 10 in the fourth quarter.
