Late Rally Lifts K-State Past UConn

Kansas State scored five runs in the eighth inning Saturday night to defeat UConn 7-3 at the MLB Desert Invitational.

Trailing 3-2, the Wildcats tied the game on a throwing error before AJ Evasco delivered a two-run triple to put K-State ahead. Dee Kennedy followed with an RBI single, and Carlos Vasquez added a double to extend the lead.

Carson Liggett kept K-State within reach, throwing five scoreless innings in relief. The right-hander allowed two hits and struck out five in his return from Tommy John surgery. Cohen Feser earned the win with two shutout innings to close the game.

K-State opened the scoring in the first inning, but UConn answered with three runs in the second and third.

The Wildcats finished with seven hits, with Vasquez recording two. K-State improved to 2-0 on the season.
