The Clay Center Lighthouse for Christ was closed for donations on Monday, June 5th due to the high volume of items that get dropped off following the city-wide garage sales. However, they will be accepting donations again Thursday.
If you would like to make a donation, Abby Sprague, Lighthouse for Christ director, says if you have a handheld donation, you can bring it through the front Mondays and Thursdays from noon until 3 pm, but for most donations, people will need to go to the back of the Lighthouse in the alley where they have a table that you can leave items. If assistance is needed, there is also a doorbell you can ring for help.
Abby also noted that if you do have large furniture to donate, to please give them a call so they can clear space. She also said they ask that any garage sale price stickers be removed before they are donated. This helps tremendously with processing times so they can get the items out for sale in the thrift store quickly.
Clean items, in good condition, such as clothing, furniture, and home décor are all welcome items to donate. There are some items, however, that cannot be accepted. Those include any household chemicals, paint, exercise equipment, tents, headboards, bed frames, large wall mirrors, and box springs without a matching mattress. If you are unsure of any donations contact the Lighthouse.
The Lighthouse for Christ is open Mondays and Thursdays from noon until 3 pm.
