Local Veteran to Speak on Memorial Day

Miltonvale will host a Memorial Day ceremony, May 29th at 10 am. There will be a cemetery service, where veteran JP Phillips will serve as keynote speaker. Phillips served in the Army for 10 years, before moving to Clay Center with his wife and two young boys.

Phillips joined the Army at 19 years old from his hometown of Escatawpa, Mississippi. His first duty station was at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he served for five years. He was transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia (now Fort Moore), where he served as a senior infantry drill sergeant for three years.

The event is hosted by the Mintonvale Chamber of Commerce and spearheaded by Dona Schultz.
