Patrick Mahomes needed just one throw to make an impact in the Kansas City Chiefs’ preseason opener Saturday. After the Arizona Cardinals fumbled the opening kickoff, Mahomes hit Jason Brownlee for a 1-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
That was Mahomes’ only play, finishing 1-for-1 passing before Gardner Minshew took over, adding a rushing score. Harrison Butker connected on a 58-yard field goal, but Arizona rallied for a 20-17 win.
Kyler Murray, playing his first preseason game since 2021, went 7-for-8 for 96 yards with one interception. Backup Jacoby Brissett threw two touchdown passes, including a 43-yard strike to Emari Demercado.
Kansas City visits Seattle on Aug. 15, while Arizona heads to Denver on Aug. 16.
