The Kansas City Chiefs ended their preseason Friday with a 24-22 loss to the Chicago Bears, but their starters delivered a strong showing.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, making his first appearance since Week 1, completed 8 of 13 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown in three drives. He led a 69-yard opening march capped by Isiah Pacheco’s 2-yard run, added a field goal on the next drive, and connected with Rashee Rice for a 4-yard score. Mahomes hit six different receivers, including a 58-yard strike to Tyquan Thornton.
The first-team defense held Chicago to 22 yards and no points in two series, highlighted by a sack from Chris Jones and Charles Omenihu.
Reserves took over in the second quarter, and Chicago rallied, scoring the game-winner with three seconds left. Kansas City will now trim the roster to 53 before facing the Chargers in Brazil on Sept. 5.
