The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man shot and killed by deputies at the Panasonic EV battery plant. The sheriff’s office says the case is still under investigation by the Johnson County Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigations Team.

One person was killed and another was critically injured during the incident at the De Soto plant. Deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the facility, located at 10301 Astra Parkway, just before 11 a.m. Friday. The situation ended with a deputy fatally shooting the suspected attacker.

Sheriff Byron Roberson spoke to reporters near the scene across from the Panasonic plant. He said investigators do not yet know if the two people involved were employees or what led to the incident.

Roberson also said it is not yet clear whether the suspect was armed. He confirmed the stabbing victim is a man.

The Johnson County Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigations Team is leading the investigation, with the Olathe Police Department as the main agency. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is also assisting.
