News Release from McConnell Air Force Base
MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan.– McConnell Air Force will conduct an exercise Dec. 16-17, to test its Airmen’s preparedness via a number of scenarios.
The most noticeable event will be the use of the base’s tornado sirens, for five consecutive minutes, at approximately noon on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
A number of other scenarios and activities are written into plan for this exercise, to include natural disaster response, and a limited Active Shooter drill Wednesday, Dec. 17 on base. The Air Force requires each base to practice its response to a number of scenarios on a regular basis, to evaluate training and maintain overall readiness.
As a result of this week’s exercise activities, visitors may experience brief delays due to increased security measures on Tuesday and Wednesday. Exercise effects shall also include:
• “Giant Voice” loudspeakers may be activated.
• Emergency response vehicles will move around the base.
• Security measures may be increased.
• Telephonic and electronic notification methods will be utilized.
McConnell officials want to assure the public that this activity is planned, controlled and actively evaluated to ensure readiness and emergency capability, and coordinated with local authorities.
