A mountain lion was reportedly seen within city limits in Ulysses on Saturday, July 19. The Ulysses Police Department took to Facebook to let residents know they are working with local game wardens and urge anybody who sees a mountain lion to leave it alone and contact the department.
Another more recent report happened in December 2024 where a resident of North Newton reported a mountain lion entering the woods on the north side of town.
According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP), those who encounter a mountain lion should avoid contact with the animal and report it to KDWP. If a confrontation is unavoidable, it is recommended to make yourself appear larger and make loud noises to scare the animal away.
