A mystery liquid spill in a small Kansas town last week has left local, state and federal agencies searching for answers. The spill was reported around 6 p.m., December 31, in Garnett. Officials still had not identified the substance, according to Anderson County Emergency Management.

Emergency officials described the material as a thick, clear, slick liquid with no noticeable odor that left behind a sticky residue. KDOT applied absorbent materials Wednesday night to contain it, and an EPA contractor will remove the material for proper disposal. At this time, there is no evidence that the substance has entered the wastewater system or affected air quality or drinking water. As a precaution, officials are continuing to closely monitor both the wastewater and drinking water systems.

Security footage captured the truck involved, but it had no visible markings, and the license plate could not be seen. Anyone with information is asked to contact emergency management at 785-822-8584.
