National Drug Take Back Day, taking place Saturday, October 25, 2025, provides a safe way to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused prescription medications and helps reduce the risk of misuse. Since 2010, the DEA has worked with local partners to make medication disposal accessible and raise awareness about the dangers of keeping unused drugs at home.

The most common drugs collected during the take back, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, are opioids such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, and morphine.
