Ahead of Mother’s Day, U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) joined 18 Senate colleagues to introduce the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act. The bill aims to support women during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and early childhood development by expanding access to vital resources and services that help mothers and children thrive.
The legislation comes as U.S. birth and fertility rates remain at historic lows, with 2023 recording the fewest births since 1979, according to CDC data. The MOMS Act seeks to address this trend by investing in stronger support systems for mothers and families.
Key provisions include the creation of Pregnancy.gov, a centralized website offering resources for pregnant and postpartum women. The site would provide information on nearby adoption services, pregnancy centers, financial aid, health care, and legal support. The bill also directs the Department of Health and Human Services to maintain a national list of federal funding opportunities for nonprofits and health care providers supporting pregnancy-related services.
In addition, the MOMS Act establishes grant programs to assist nonprofits that support women during and after pregnancy and to fund medical technology for prenatal and postnatal telehealth care in underserved areas.
