New Restaurant to Open in Former Nelson’s Landing Space

Sikes in Leonardville, KS, announced on Facebook that Cancun Mexican Restaurant will soon open in the former Nelson’s Landing space. Sikes, a historic community hall built in 1909, has been a community gathering place.

Nelson’s Landing, owned by Kim and Alan Nelson, closed in 2020 after 13 years, influenced by the pandemic. The restaurant was associated with their son and local football star Jordy Nelson. An official opening date for Cancun Mexican Restaurant will be announced soon.

Community members are enthusiastic about the new addition.

Jonathan Graham said, “I honestly think going to be good for the community ever since Nelson ‘s landing shut down it kind of put a dent in leonardville you know yeah I think it would get everybody back up in the spirits and I think it’s a I think it’s gonna be good I think it’s gonna be a great time and you know the owners I feel they’re going to make it feel welcoming and you know I think it’s going to be great I think it’s going to be amazing. For the community.”

Maika Graham added, “Having another restaurant open in Leonardville is exciting and I like to take my daughter out to lunch every Friday, so it’ll be nice to have another local business to support.”
