Cool Careers, a TV series spotlighting high-demand careers in Kansas for kids and teens, will air this fall on all four Kansas PBS stations: KCPT (Kansas City), KTWU (Topeka and eastern Kansas), PBS Kansas (Wichita and Central Kansas), and SHPTV (Central and Western Kansas).
KTWU General Manager Valerie M.B. VanDerSluis sees the collaboration with HirePaths as a way to offer unique content for younger audiences, a group local stations often lack options for. The series aims to inspire teens to explore career and technical education and other affordable career training options during high school, with each episode outlining steps to acquire necessary skills and experience.
Since its debut in fall 2022, Cool Careers has been available on social media, YouTube, and HirePaths.com. For Kansas PBS stations, the content has been adapted into 30-minute episodes, though some short videos will also air in their original form.
Each episode features a high-demand career and a local Kansas or Kansas City metro youth as the host, aged 11 to 16. The show covers a range of industries and locations across the state. HirePaths hopes the series will encourage more young people to stay in Kansas as they enter the workforce.
