No-till on the Plains and Upfield, the parent company of Country Crock, have teamed up to launch a cover crop cost-share program for farmers in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. This sustainability initiative offers a reimbursement of $20 per acre for producers who plant cover crops on land that has not previously been used for this purpose.
The program is designed to encourage the adoption of cover crops among growers who are either new to this practice or looking to expand their acreage. Participants will receive $20 per acre for qualified land, with details about eligible counties and contracts available on the No-till on the Plains website under the Resources Tab.
According to Aaron Sawyers, Executive Director for No-till on the Plains, this initiative allows producers to experiment with cover crops while minimizing financial risk.
To participate, producers must submit USDA Form 578, confirming that the designated acres have not been previously planted with cover crops. They will also need to provide a receipt for seed purchases before receiving reimbursement.
Cover crops must be planted between April 1 and November 8, 2024, to qualify for this year’s program.
