Ogallala Commons, in partnership with K-State Research and Extension’s Wild West District, is hosting an Organic Transition Farm Tour on Thursday, July 24, in Liberal, Kansas. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central Time and aims to support food producers, gardeners, and community members interested in learning about organic specialty crop production.
The tour will begin at the K-State Research & Education Building, located at 1081 Stadium Avenue. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for registration and light refreshments. At 9:20 a.m., Dr. Tammy Counts of the Kansas Black Farmers Association will give a presentation on transitioning to organic specialty crop production.
Following the presentation, participants will tour two local vegetable production sites. The first stop is 3 Sisters Specialty Crops in Liberal, followed by The Shed in Plains, Kansas. A pulled pork sandwich lunch will be served at noon during the second stop, and the tour will conclude at 2 p.m.
