The Shawnee Parks and Recreation Department shared several items for approval at the recent commissioners’ meeting. The department announced it received a Land and Water Conservation Fund (5050) grant from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to build two cabins at Lake Shawnee Campground.

The grant will cover $148,989.50, with the county providing matching funds from the user fee-funded campground revolving fund for the $297,990.79 project. Each cabin will be 800 square feet, featuring two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. The sites are already prepared, with leveling and utility connections in place.
